A Visit to West Virginia

We spent Saturday and Sunday (5/26-27) in West Virginia with some of Britt's family. We saw his maternal grandmother. She talked about how she always keeps the candy jar full, as people remember that special candy she always has. She also spoke of how sad it is now that the basement is never full of grandkids. She was so sweet. She wanted to hold Micah, but since she is only 80 pounds and Micah is over 30, we had to convince her that it wasn't such a great idea. What a blessing to share a good day with her.

We also visited with his paternal Uncle Harold (who is 91) and cousin Jeff. He told stories of his younger years, including trials of the Depression and tales of his father, mother and step-mother, Britt's paternal grandmother. His memory and health are amazing for a man his age. Only his hearing is failing a bit.We stayed with his maternal Aunt Pat and Uncle John, very gracious hosts, and saw Uncle Tom, too, but forgot to take pictures. We've really got to remember to document these things!

A Visit with Grammie and Grandad Force

On Wednesday, May 23rd, we drove up to Pennsylvania to visit my maternal grandparents. We spent Thursday and Friday with them. Micah had so much fun playing outside, discovering caterpillars, eating apples and celebrating Grammie's 85th birthday a bit early (It's actually on the 28th.) with a cake ("mmm") and candles.

We also got to see my cousin Deanna and my Aunt Betty at Perkins for lunch, but forgot to take pictures. :(

Bodily functions

It will never cease to boggle my mind how funny my boys think bodily functions are - especially those that make noise or stink. A couple weeks ago Britt and Micah were in the stairwell when Britt passed gas. It echoes in the stairwell. Micah surprisedly asked, "What that?" Britt told him, "Daddy pooted." To this Micah replied, "Daddy pooted" with a giggle. Now Micah also points out when he or Britt burbs. He also points out when anyone coughs and says "bwess you" anytime anyone sneezes.

On Sunday night we arrived home very late from West Virginia and Micah had fallen asleep in the car. Britt carried him in and put him in his crib. I went in to tuck him in. Micah was fast asleep, when he passed gas and commented, "Micah pooted." and then giggled. Why is that so funny that he can comment and laugh in his sleep? Indeed, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?

Conversations with a toddler

Yesterday at lunch Micah and I had a conversation that went like this:
"Micah baby belly." (pulling up his shirt and pointing)
"No, Micah. Mommy has a baby in her belly."
"No! Micah baby belly!" (very emphatic)
"Micah, the baby is in Mommy's belly."
(laughing with eyes twinkling) No, Mommy. Micah baby belly.
He is so silly! I think he was making a joke. Is a 20 month old capable of making a joke?
Anyway, today we got it sorted out. I asked him where the baby was and he told me, "Mommy belly" and this time lifted my shirt and pointed. I asked him to give the baby a kiss and he did.

One day last week, Micah climbed in the front seat of the car instead of into his seat in the back where he belongs. Just before I scolded him for not getting into his seat like I had asked, he looked up at me with both hands on the steering wheel very seriously and asked, "Mommy, Micah drive, okay?" I couldn't help but laugh as I scooped him up and put him in his carseat, explaining that he wasn't quite big enough to drive yet. He was very disappointed.

I haven't quite figured out how to convince him that it takes time to warm up tomato soup and why it isn't a good idea to turn summersaults on the kitchen floor (which he can successfully do on his own about one out of every ten tries). Maybe in time those things will make sense to him, too.

Micah's Fortune - A Special Announcement

The fortune reads, "Micah Mooney is going to be a big brother in December." Surprise!!!

Peek-a-boo

Heather, Gina and I supervised and Gina snapped photos as Micah pushed doors open and ran around and around at the Chick-fil-a Dwarf House one Saturday morning.
Thanks, Aunt Gina and Miss Heather!

Ice cream Cookie

Britt's new school had their company picnic at Stone Mountain Park. It turned out to be a dreary, cool day. Micah spent all of lunch bundled up in his stroller, complete with a blanket. The weather didn't stop us from introducing Micah to an ice cream sandwich cookie...

Picking Strawberries

These pics are from about 2 weeks ago: our first picking trip. Micah was very helpful; he'd pick a berry, take a bite, put it in the bucket and repeat. Most bites were followed by "dewicious!". Mom and I went again today and Micah proved to be a quick study. He'd pick a berry and pop the whole thing, stem and all, into his mouth. We convinced him to show it to one of us first to get the stem off and make sure it was red. When we got back to the car, his shirt and face were covered with berry juice and his pants were all full of mud. I think he had fun!
